Marzipan Stollen - aromatic, sweet, delicious!

Based on the original recipe, the Marzipan Stollen is also very buttery to begin with. Larded with juicy rum sultanas and coated with a fine layer of icing sugar, the biscuit is further rounded off with traditional spices. So far, so good. But then the marzipan comes into play. At least 5% of the dough must consist of the sweet raw mass. This is incorporated in small pieces and makes the whole thing simply forbidden delicious!

But it was probably around the 17th century, when Stollen, which was then already considered a royal pastry, came into contact with marzipan, which was also very precious. Because almonds were necessary for the production of the mass and they were very expensive, not everyone could indulge in this sweet delight.

Marzipan originally came from Persia. It was from here that the Moors brought it with them when they temporarily conquered the Iberian Peninsula. During the Middle Ages, the sweet delicacy made its way from Spain to the rest of Europe, where it was not only a sweet treat but also, for example, a remedy for constipation.
